Cannabis Laboratory Director

 

Our laboratory is looking to hire a cannabis laboratory director who will have the autonomy to run and spearhead services while working in regulator collaboration with the ownership group.  


The cannabis laboratory director will be responsible for all key scientific and leadership activities including: managing laboratory testing staff, overseeing all sampling, testing, and data analysis, maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation, and adhering to current regulations. This is a rare opportunity for an entrepreneurial scientist to join a stable laboratory, help set culture, policy, and grow the business.   The laboratory is housed within an 7,000 square foot laboratory facility and has two suites of state of the art testing equipment and laboratory design to support analytical chemistry and microbiology testing services for cannabis cultivators and processors as mandated by the state.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Technical

  • Manages multiple analytical projects related to the development & optimization and/or troubleshooting of sensitive, efficient, and reliable assays for several classes of analytes.

  • Prepares, reviews, and edits method development, optimization, and validation protocols, analytical technical reports, and regulatory documentation.

  • Conducts testing and data analysis.

  • Establishes and monitors operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)


Regulatory

  • Establishes and ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits, and corrective action.

  • Ensures development, implementation, and administration of department’s policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Ensures development, implementation, and administration of department’s Quality Control program.

  • Performs quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of data.


Management Responsibilities

  • Performs performance review and planning for direct reports.

  • Works with supervisory personnel to ensure participation in educational plan and personnel development plans.

  • Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with laboratory personnel, other laboratories, clients, and vendors.

  • Interviews, hires, counsels, and/or terminates subordinate personnel, as required. Coordinates with executive team on personnel issues.

  • Maintain annual laboratory budget.

  • Provides open, positive, and productive communication with site leadership and corporate leadership.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • PhD in analytical chemistry or related discipline, with 1+ years relevant experience in commercial testing.

  • MS in analytical chemistry or related discipline, with 3+ years relevant experience in commercial testing.

  • Must pass all required background checks.

  • Experience in a cannabis analytical laboratory is required.  No exceptions.

  • ISO 17025 experience.

  • Laboratory experience performing method development, optimization, and validation activities.

  • Must pass all required background checks.

  • Must be at least 21 yrs old.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Duties are performed onsite (NOT REMOTE) in a smoke-free office and laboratory 

environment.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, balance, and reach.

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS


  • Salary: $110,000 - $135,000
